Onion Uttapam is a soft and thick South Indian pancake topped with fresh onions, green chilli, and coriander leaves. Using our fresh dosa batter, you can easily prepare a flavorful and fluffy uttapam at home in just a few minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups our fresh dosa batter

  • ½ cup onion (finely chopped)

  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped)

  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)

  • Salt (optional, as batter may already contain salt)

  • 2–3 tsp oil or ghee

Preparation

  1. In a small bowl, mix the chopped onion, green chilli, and coriander leaves.

  2. If the batter is very thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of water to slightly loosen it.

  3. Heat a dosa tawa or non-stick pan on medium flame.

Cooking Instructions

  1. Once the tawa is hot, pour one ladle of our dosa batter in the center.

  2. Spread it slightly but do not make it too thin — uttapam should be thick and soft.

  3. Immediately sprinkle the onion, green chilli, and coriander mixture evenly on top.

  4. Gently press the toppings with a spatula so they stick to the batter.

  5. Drizzle oil or ghee around the edges and a few drops on top.

  6. Cook for about 2–3 minutes on medium flame until the bottom turns golden brown.

  7. Carefully flip the uttapam and cook the other side for 1–2 minutes until the onions are lightly roasted.

  8. Remove from the pan once both sides are cooked well.
